Michael Bauer reviews Lucy at Bardessono

This weekend, Michael Bauer reviewed Lucy, the revamped restaurant at Yountville’s posh Bardessono hotel. It was not a good review. He gave Lucy only 1.5 stars overall, and a singleton for food.

The LEED-certified Bardessono hotel opened in 2009, with an eponymous restaurant. The dining spot never quite caught on, and closed for a big winter remodel last fall, to be reopened as an entirely new concept named Lucy with Victor Scargle at the helm. In February, Lucy opened, but as it turns out, Mr. Bauer finds that not much has changed, and in this case, it’s a bad thing.

The Press Democrat reviewed Lucy back in March, summing it thusly: “Produce from Lucy’s Garden makes this upscale restaurant worth a visit.” Bauer mostly disagrees, and with the pricetag so high — over $40 for some entrees — the restaurant needs to be better, from the food to the service. And in Yountville, where there are so many other options, that money can be better spent elsewhere, Bauer argues.

What do you think? Have you been to Lucy? What’s your Yountville destination when you’re paying significant entree prices?
